College Football National Championship Preview
The matchups that most experts saw coming is here. The Georgia Bulldogs will face the Alabama Crimson Tide in the national championship game on Monday January 11th in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium. Alabama will be looking to defend their national title from last year. This will also be a rematch of this year‘s SEC championship game which Alabama came out victorious 41 to 24. The last time Alabama met Georgia in the National Championship game Alabama defeated Georgia 26-23.
Alabama easily handled the Cincinnati Bearcats in their Cotton Bowl victory in Dallas, 27 to 6 on New Years’ Eve. Later that same night Georgia dismantled the Michigan Wolverines in Miami at the Orange Bowl by a score of 34 to 11 in a game that was never in doubt from the beginning. Head coach of Alabama Nick Saban will be seeking his eighth national title and his seventh while at Alabama since he started coaching there in 2007. Head coach Kirby Smart is seeking his first national title and Georgia’s first since the 1980 season.
Back when these two teams met in the National Championship in 2018 Georgia led 13-0 at halftime. Alabama head coach Nick Saban made the switch from quarterback Jalen hurts to freshman Tua Tagovailoa. The bold move paid off as Alabama outscored Georgia 26 to 10 the rest of the game to win 26-23.
Even though the games for the College Football Playoff semifinals were blowouts it was great seeing the crowds back in the stands. Last years title game in Miami between Ohio State and Alabama only allowed 14,000 spectators due to COVID related restrictions. Expect a crowd of 65,000 to watch two evenly matched SEC powerhouses slug it out.k
The National Championship kicks off at 8 o’clock EST on ESPN. The opening line from Vegas has Georgia as a 2.5 in favorite.
